Susan Rodriguez:BIOGRAPHY
• Susan Rodriguez is an author, artist, and educator who advocates on behalf of art and cultural understanding. She is a seasoned public speaker whose professional appearances span the globe.•She is on faculty at The University of the Arts as the Graduate Art Education Admissions Coordinator. She teaches pre-service graduate-level art education and teacher programs that employ collaborations between The University of the Arts and regional museums; principally, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and conducts travel/study tours abroad. In her years with the School District of Philadelphia's Overbrook Educational Center, she was awarded numerous grants and commendations for her work in visual arts with sight-impaired and blind students. A recipient of fellowships and awards, Susan was named The 1996 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. She was awarded The Disney American Teacher Award in VisualArts for 1993-1994. She received the nationally acclaimed, prestigious Milken Family Foundation Outstanding Educator Award, 1994-1995.
•Susan is an exhibiting artist with a deep belief in the connection between studio production and learning overall. Select exhibits include : Indigo Art Gallery: "Stealing Water from the Moon", Wayne Art Center: "Muses, Models, and Memories." The Philadelphia Museum of Art: Women in Art, The Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, and Villanova University: Ten Philadelphia Artists. Her tile painting series, "Buddha Sightings: were on exhibit at The Philadelphia Art Alliance in a juried show in the fall of 1998.
•Susan is a strong advocate for multicultural appreciation. She is a consultant inclusionary education, art education and museum appreciation. She is a consultant and public speaker who endorses teacher empowerment and renewal through arts educaiton. She is a member of arts advisory committes and serves on numerous art and ecuation panels. The Moore College of Art awarded Susan with an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts. She holds a Masters of Education and a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She is a member of National State Teachers of the Year and is listed in Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.
