At a time when Federal Law passed a "Bill
of Rights", mandating Special Education in 1975, Susan
Rodriguez was already teaching painting to blind children.
She was aware of the lack of resources for art educators,
who were entirely unprepared for students with exceptionalities.
She wrote her first book to addres the difficulties presented
by teaching special needs students in the art classroom.
In the 1980's, art education expanded to
include art history as one of the four major components: production,
aesthetics, and criticism/analysis. Rodriguez developed a
delightful means to teach art history and appreciation to
students of all ages with her book, Art Smart!
